After being out on maternity leave, its been an interesting transition back into teaching. My days have changed from changing diapers and preparing bottles to writing lesson plans and going back into "teacher mode" which at least at this point in time is different from "mommy mode". Although it's hard to leave my little Alice and Oliver each morning, I am very excited to be back. This year there are so many wonderful things happening in our district, and I am just caught up in the whirlwind of excitement! At the end of the second day of the school year, I am TIRED, but READY for an amazing year ahead!

3rd grade students are well on their way to reading music. Students can now identify where the musical alphabet lives on the music staff. Students can also locate and identify Middle C and D. All of these notes will be used later in the year when they begin studying the recorder. 2nd grade students will soon start a "Musical Instrument Safari" where they were learn about each of the four musical instrument families; woodwind, brass, string, and percussion. 1st grade students are continuing their work on listening to music and being able to describe what they hear with newly learned music vocabulary. Students will also reinforce their literacy skills by writing about what they hear. Kindergarten students will soon begin work on simple rhythms patterns using "Pear" and "Apple" where they will use syllables to help learn basic rhythm patterns. Stay tuned for the next vocal music update! Check out some of the wonderful things happening in vocal music!
